Kara
Kara

Technical Definition-Japanese for "empty." Normally a move can only be cancelled if it makes contact (either on hit or block) with an opponent. But rarely, certain moves can be kara cancelled. A kara cancel interrupts a move while it is still in its startup frames. Kara cancelled moves usually have different properties than if the move was used raw, the most common of which is increased range.

In Other Words-"The Gunslinger has an opponent in his sights, and fires a shot. But to the opponent's surprise, the shot missed. The opponent takes a moment and sneers at their inaccuracy...

Ha! Ya missed!

Then the gunslinger points out that he wasn't aiming at the opponent, and hit exactly what he really was aiming for: A trick shot that sets off something else (often a chain reaction) that slips past the opponent's guard, and takes out the target in a different way. Bonus points if it's actually far more effective than a direct attack would have been. "-TV Tropes: Exactly What I Aimed At
