Technical Definition-The small amount of damage dealt to a defender when they block an attack. Typically, special moves always do chip damage while normals dealing chip damage is game dependent. Whether or not a character can lose a round to chip damage (referred to as being "chipped out") varies from game to game as well.

Special moves usually deal chip damage. Normals however, may not. The health bar stays gold indicating no chip damage was dealt.
